Which Boating Accessories Do You Need?

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

Boating accessories are a necessary part of any boating trip as they can add a lot of comfort and convenience. You have many choices when setting out to add some accessories, so don't feel overwhelmed. There are certain basic items you should always carry plus some optional accessories that you may just want regardless of the cost.

You should start with boating accessories that are required equipment by the United States Coast Guard. These include:

* Fire extinguishers

* A sound device suich as a foghorn, or whistle, or bell

* Life jackets for everyone on board

* Proper lighting when boating at night

In addtion, a two-way radio for communicating with people on shore if you should ever find yourself in a bad situation or even stranded. Though this isn't mandatory, smart boaters will never want to be totall out of communication when out on the water.

When detemining which additional accessories you'd like to have, first evaluate the main purposes for your boat. If it's water sports, consider some water skis and slalom skis which will also require a good, strong tow rope. For inner tubing, you'll want a quality tube with some handles and a tow rope as well.

An on-board stereo system is nice to have if you plan to do some entertaining on your boat -- nothing too expensive, but something that will give you a variety of music either from a radio station or CDs and DVDs. After all, how can you have a decent party without some music?

Of course for other boating accessories include everything from fishing rods and nets to that jazzy pair of sunglasses. And don't forget to get an anchor to keep you from drifting away from that "part cove" you discovered!

If you plan to travele through larger bodies of water, you should consider having a good quality navigation system. GPS systems are now fairly inexpensive and are definite life savers if you were ever to get lost or stranded.

A boat with separate below-deck living space should be outfitted with some creature comforts as well which means a coffee pot, microwave over, and perhaps a TV taht allows you to play some DVDs. Especially if you have kids on board, having these extras could very well make or break how much they enjoy the trip!

You can shop for accessories for your boat lots of place, but you'll discover some of the best deals online.
