After You Have Purchased Your Boat

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

Now that you've completed purchasing a brand new boat, you're no doubt very excited -- and you should be! You can start celebrating with family and friends, but it's important that you don't rush out onto the water to quickly because you have a few tasks take care of first.

This is especially true if you're new to boating, because the first thing you should do is to take a safety course. There is a lot of information you're going to have to absorb about operating a boat safely. Time spent on the water is fun and exciting, but there a many things you'll need to always be aware of.

Once you have your new boat, you'll need to register and re-title it and the trailer as well as pay the sales tax and apply any up to date registration stickers if needed. Boat insurance is also a must to protect yourself, family and friends when out enjoying a day on the water.

Once you're ready to make your first trip, try to have an experienced boater on board. They're be able to show you how to turn in tight spaces, even trailering and docking. You should practice docking during different currents and take the helm with the verteran boater there to help you. Take the time to get comfortable enough at the helm to the point where you're ready to take others out for a ride.

The boating experience is fun, but at times it can also be challenging. You'll the sense of freedom boating offers, especially if this is your first time skippering your own boat. This purchase has opened new doors in your life for you and your family, so have fun, but be safe.
