Finding the Right Boat Dealer
from: Maxx Adventure TravelPurchasing a new boat starts with finding a reputable boat dealer, because you're going to rely on your boat dealer to help you understand every little detail about the boat you’re going to purchase. This means you be visiting them regularly for service, so it’s important they're a company you can trust. Next to your house and car, a boat is going to be one of the largest purchases you likely make, so choose your right boat dealer carefully.
Here are some questions you should ask of any potential boat dealer before you buy.
Start by finding out how long the dealer has been in business. Lots of boat businesses fail to survive so you must minimize your risk and make sure you don't purchase a boat from a boat dealer that could be out of business just when you need them in the future. To be safe, buy from a dealer who's been in business for a number of years to ensure they're available for service and repairs.
If you plan to have your boat dealer also service and repair your boat, you'll need to know when their service department is open for business. If Saturday is the only day convenient for you to take your boat in for service, you should make sure your boat dealer maintains these hours.
How does your service department operate? When your boat is under warranty, do you have to pay a deductible to get repairs? Do they have a regular engine service? What are the normal charges for basic engine servicing? Are there certain repairs the dealer isn't able to perform?
Finally, you need to be clear as to whether the dealer is “authorized” or “certified” for the boat you’re considering purchasing. Boat manufacturers often train and certify mechanics and businesses to do maintenance and repairs, so make certain your dealer is certified or authorized by the manufacturert; otherwise your repairs might not be guaranteed under the boat’s warranty.
So don't be afraid to ask all the pertinent questions regarding the boat you’re considering buying as well as the details about how the dealership operates.
Another good idea is to get references whenever you can from friends or anyone you can find who has experience with the dealer. If you have boat owner friends ask them about their boat dealer and whether they're pleased with the buying experience and ongoing service. We all know that word of mouth is the best form of advertising, and so a talking to some current customers is the best way to determine if you'll be happy with a particular dealer.
Purchasing any type of a boat is a going to be a major investment for you and your family. Of course, you going to want to get the best price you can but you also want great after sale service to help protect your investmente.
