Boat Rentals

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

The U.S. and Canada have wonderful lakes and sea-side resorts. What better way to enjoy their beauty than take a boat rental. When consulting with a tourist agency, however, you'll be asked many questions about your requirements. Basic questions such as the number of family members aren't a problem, but you'll need to let the agent know whether yoyu want a kayak, a pontoon or a yacht.

Here is a brief introduction to the types of boats available:

House Boats:
There's no better way to enjoy your vacation then staying in a house boat. Houseboats on the awesome Mississippi are well known, but the small inlet rivers and many lakes in the U.S. and Canada have inviting house boats. Your boat rental is now a luxury condo on water. You'll discover every facility, from a microwave for cooking freshly caught fish to a washing machine, to the latest sound systems for your favorite music. Imagine waking to slow rising sun over the lake and going to bed with the soothing sound of gentle waves against your house boat.

Kayak: If you're into exercising, your boat rental should be a kayak. It's a narrow, usually small boat requiring one or two people who use a peddle to propel. Kayaks were generally used for fishing or hunting by Eskimos or natives of Greenland. It's a wonderful exercise and done in a team gives a great feeling of camaraderie which draws people to team sports and pubs. A modern kayak can be made of many a new material, such as remodeled plastic, fiberglass or carbon fibre. Originally, the kayak was made of animal skin. Sea kayaks may also accommodate three people. Kayaks are used for surfing also. Kayaking is an Olympic sport.

Pontoons: Pontoons are flat bottomed boats that float with the help of closed drums or pipes, tubes etc normally called pontoons. What we usually call a pontoon is a boat with pontoons at its base to help keep it afloat. Pontoons have different sections, the boat doesn't sink even in the case of a leak in a pontoon. They're very comfortable and stable, making them very a popular boat rentals for family vacations. Pontoon boats are available in many different sizes -- including small to very large.

Yacht: From their humble origin, the sail boats of old have evolved into the luxury boats of the rich. Whereas even as late as the 1980s, electric lights in a yacht wasn't common, now most yachts have refrigerators, air conditioning, and cooking appliances. Also, these days yachts use a combination of sail and motor for propulsion. However, renting a yacht doesn't come cheap, but it will provide a vacation to remember.

Before, deciding on the best boat rental for your needs, it's always a good idea to ask questions. For example, the boat rental doesn't usually include the cost of fuel. You may also be asked for a security deposit. In a some cases you may not be allowed to rent a boat unless you can satisfy the agency that you have experience handling the type of boat you're inteested in renting.
