A Condo on the River: House Boat Rentals
from: Maxx Adventure TravelNothing beats a vacation on a house boat. The rates for house boat rentals are, of course, not even a fraction of what you'd have to pay for a cruise. In fact, you can rent a house boat with bare necessities or go for one befitting a millionaire. They're called floating condos -- so the facilities that you get may vary just like they vary from hotel to hotel and from suit to room to dormitory.
How much a house boat rentals will cost, of course, depends on many factors. First is the size. Most of these house boats are in sizes from 38 feet to 62 feet. They're meant to accommodate anything from a couple to a larger family of twelve. The number of cabins, or sleeping quarters varies from one to four. Thus people go in for house boat rentals for any purpose from a honeymoon to a family vacation. Many house boats allow pets, while some charge extra.
Most house boats have basic facilities like a TV set, kitchenette and a bathroom. However, with more expensive house boat rentals you can live that week of luxury in the lap of nature. They come equipped with queen size beds, CD/DVD players, sophisticated music systems, luxury baths, microwave, barbeque, full-size refrigerators, cooling-heating, washing machines, dishwashers and water slides.
How much house boat rentals cost obviously depends on the size of the boat -- when we have jumbo size triple story house boat, the cost is bound to be high.
The cost of a house boat rental ranges from $1,375 per week for a 38' house boat to anywhere from $2,350 to $4,750 for larger boats.
The cost of a house boat rental also depends on location. A house boat in a private resort is going to cost more. It also depends on scenic beauty, beaches etc.
There are other factors to take into account. For example, the payment for a house boat rental doesn't include the cost of fuel. It also doesn't include fees for a fishing license, as required by most States. They're all extra.
The house boat rental may also cost more or less depending upon the season. For example, in upper Mississippi, 'Season' is May 1 through October 31. While in Florida, discounts are offered between December through February. In California, the house boat rental for summer is the costliest, while in the fall, it's the lowest.
Senior citizen discounts in house boat rentals are also offered by some companies.
You'll also find that a rental costs more on weekends.
It's always better to carefully plan a vacation after comparing the rentals available for various types of boats, facilities offered.
