Getting Started Hiking and Camping

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

All the latest gadgets, hiking gear, and other camping necessities are showcased in different media, from newpapers to television to the Internet. New camp destinations are also featured in magazines and TV programs. These "enhanced" products and newly discovered "camper havens" are attractive to both professional and amateur campers and also encourage non-campers to try this out this adventure.

However, before joining this circle of campers, a beginner should educate themselves in the basics and fundamentals of camping.

Here's some helpful tips for the beginner:

1. Choose your hiking boots carefully

* Boots are probably the most important gear when camping or hiking. Along with protecting the feet, boots make it easier to navigate. So make sure you choose comfortable that fit properly.

2. Choose the right backpack

* Backpack comes in different sizes and styles, but don't buy a bag just because it looks big. You should choose a bag contains just enough for your supplies and isn't too bulky to carry.

3. Choose the right tent

* A large tent works best for camping since the spaciousness allows you to stretch out your body while sleeping, but also allows free air circulation. Make sure your tent has a good ventilation system.

4. Travel light

* Don’t bring everything and the kitchen sink. Get rid of anything that isn't really necessary for camping.

These are essentials:

a. Water (at least 1 litre for short hikes)

b. Compass and Maps

c. Extra light clothes

d. Matches

e. Swiss Knife

f. First Aid Kit

g. Rain gear

h. Enought Food

i. Flashlight

j. Personals (toothbrush, soap, shampoo etc.)

k. Cooking equipment (stove, pan, dipper )

5. Bring the right food

* Don't bring foods that can spoil easily. Canned foods are the best bet. Avoid foods with sauces and broths that could spill onto stuff in your bag. Don't bring fruits. Foods rich in carbohydrates like noodles, rice and cheese are the wisest choice.

So these are basics for a beginning camper. You're free to do, eat and wear whatever you like, just make sure you don't do anything to compromise everyone's safety and comfort.
