10 Fun Camping Activities
from: Maxx Adventure TravelNot only is camping in the great outdoors and adventure, camping trips are fun. Rouging it in the fresh air of nature is also a great change in routine from from the stress and routine of city life. However, there are people think the pleasures of camping will be constantly disrupted by kids. To be perfectly honest, it really is a major change for kids on a camping trip since they'll suddenly find themselves without a TV or computer to keep them busy (and occupied). For most parents, this could turn into a disasterous camping trip. Don't despair, there are lots of activities once you're out into the great outdoors that will keep kids entertained.
Here's ten ideas to help them pass the time.
1. Go jump in a lake. Depending on where your camp ground is located, you should be able to find some nice swimming spots in the area. Whether it's a big lake, a small brook or nice river, spending a few hours splashing in the water will provide some great wet fun. Swimming and playing in the middle of nature is much more interesting and fun than swimming in a man-made pool, as long as you make sure the swimming hole or lake is safe for people. Since they're located near your camping park, they'll normally let you know which ones are good for dips and which ones to stay away from. However, for saftey's sake, never leave your kids to swim alone.
2. Bike Adventures. Camping sites a great for having bike trails, and since you'll have a marvellous view of nature, riding your bikes in the clean, country air without traffic to worry about is going to be a fun adventure. Bring along a map and plan your trip so you don't get lost, and don't ride too fast, or you might leave someone behind, anyway. Besides, you're going to want to take your time and enjoy the scenery.
3. Birds and Animal Watching. Of course, you're going to want to check out the camp grounds primers and leaflets that will inform you about the various animals that thrive in the area. If you're been doing some research before your trip, you may bring along your books on wild animals and see if you could spot them. Why not have a contest -- whoever can identify the most animals and birds is the winner. Some animals come out at night so why not compare them to those that come out during the day. However, it's important to keep your kids a safe distance so they don't disturb the animals.
4. Outdoor Games. You have lots of choices here, from the classic sac race, to tug-o-war or just plain ol' tag. However, be sure to play in a clear area to avoid accidents. Also, try to keep the noise level down so you don't disturb the wildlife and other campers in the area
5. Scavenger Hunt. If your kids are like most, they'll love to go on quests and adventures. Scavenger hunts is a great alternative to role playing games, and since it's a physical activity, your kids will get some needed exercise, a refreshing change from sitting in front of the computer all day. Just be careful of the many prickly plants that could be lurking in the woods, such as poison ivy, oak and sumac.
6. Read Maps and Compasses. Being in the great outdoors during your camping adventure is a the perfect opportunity to teach your children about navigation. Get yourself a map and compass and start exploring the forest. You can show your kids where you are on the map and show them where you're heading. This can be part of your scavenger hunt.
This is probably one of the most anticipated activities when going camping and a great way to end the day. Everyone gathers around the campfire to sing songs and tell stories (scary are best), as well as roast marshmallows and hotdogs and play riddles and other word games.
8. Star Gazing. This is a camping trip night activity that's both fun and educational since being away from city lights makes it much easier to do. You can just lie on the ground and appreciate the free light show in the sky, or perhpas you have a star chart you can consult in order to find all the famous constellations and other heavenly bodies. Watch for shooting stars and be sure make your wish.
9. Bathe in the Rain. When you're out camping, you're going to have to accept the fact that the weather is going to be unpredictable in many places. You just can't expect to have clear and sunny skies every day of your camping adventure. So don't pout if the rain comes, have some fun playing in the rain and enjoying mother earth's natural shower. However, be careful to stay inside if there should be any thunder and lightning.
10. Relax and Simply Enjoy the Moment. You're probably only going to spend time in the outdoors a few times a year, so enjoy what nature has to offer. Don't bring thos electronic gadgets and just bask in the peace and quiet of the forest. This is a great time to bond and enjoy each other's company.
There are many more activities you can do outdoors, but these will get you started. If you plan your schedule carefully, you and your kids are going to have a great time together as a family.
