Finding the Right Camping Backpack
from: Maxx Adventure TravelIf the time has come for you to purchase a camping backpack, you should consider the different features you're going to need. Anyone new to camping may be somewhat confused by the huge selection of camping backpacks available at both retail stores and online. However, what's good about this is that with so many options, manufacturers make better products, which makes it almost impossible to choose a bad backpack for camping.
One of the major recent innovations in camping backpacks is the revolutionary padding that's now included in major parts of the pack. For instance, the latest designs in backpacks have wider shoulder straps that are padded, thus prevent the gouging shoulder pain older backpack styles usually caused. Wider shoulder straps are better at dispersing the weight of the pack and also prevents the weight from creating problems when you're hiking or walking in the wilderness.
Internal frame camping backpacks hug the body for much better balance, especially when walking through off trail areas. An internal frame backpack has a taller frame and is usually narrower han traditional backpacks. The framework is actually inside the pack and consists of flat bars that act like stays. The frames are usually made of aluminum, a very light weight metal that doesn’t add a lot of extra weight to the pack. There are some frames made of composite materials, but aluminum is usually considered the best material. The frame bars are usually V shaped, although some manufacturers use a U or X shape.
However, these internal stays make an internal frame backpack quit stiff, but you'll find that it's not uncomfortable since they're quite flexible, which increases the comfort level. As mentioned, the way the internal frame pack hugs your body assists with balance by focusing the weight of the pack closer to your body’s center of gravity. Internal frame camping backpacks have lots of compression straps, which aids stability while preventing the pack from slipping and sliding around on your back as you're walking around.
Suspension straps along with a hip belt and shoulder straps allows an internal frame pack to fit to your body easily. In addition, the narrow shape of internal camping backpacks will allow you to move easier as well as bend and simply walk, much more so than older backpack styles.
