Special Backpacks for Hunters

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

Hunters know how essential having a good hunting backpack is when on a hunting trip -- especially a long trip. One quick way to ruin your hunting expedition is to wear a badly constructed hunting backpack. Of course, an attractive, fashionable backpack is optional since even most of the animals aren't likely going to notice.

Hunting backpacks are manufactured by companies who are quite in tune with the major concerns of hunterswho are in the market for a new backpack speciacally for their needs. A good example is that most hunting backpacks now have padded shoulder straps to prevent them from digging into a person's shoulders when out hiking through wilderness trails. They're also likely to have padded hip straps since these packs are designed to focus most of the weight on a person's hips. Without this added padding, the weight of the pack can easily cause a lot of pain to an hunter's hips when they're hiking.

Another great advantage to the newer types of hunting backpacks is the adjustable suspension on the packs. These frames are now designed to be adjustable so they fit the body properly. Having an exact fit prevents both back and shoulder pain during any hunting trip. The frame of some packs can even be used to carry meat or hide back to your hunting camp which makes it a bit easier to transport your kill.

Regarding the appearance of hunting backpacks, the pattern of the fabric isn't the most important consideration. Of course, lots of different camouflage patterns are readily available, but there is one other more important concern when determining which pack you're going to buy. What you want to be certain about is having a large, clear neon orange colored strip on the pack to ensure your visibility to other hunters. This is an important part of keeping you safe when you're out in the woods where there may be many other hunters.

The newest hunting backpack designs provide extra pockets for smaller gear which you'll certainly find useful when you're out in the wilderness and have an easily accessed pocket for your map or first aid kit. Compasses and ammunition -- even rain gear -- can inconveniently disappear to the bottom of a large pack, and become difficult to find until you've completely unpacked when you reach your camp site. These small side pockets are easy to reach and solve this problem perfectly.

US Soldiers Make Real 'Predator' Machine Gun Pack

When U.S. soldiers wanted a way to handle heavy machine guns and ammunition alone in the heat of battle, they found inspiration in the mini-gun backpacks of the 1987 film "Predator" and built do-it-yourself ammo carriers. Their battlefield invention has since undergone official Army development and testing among several units deployed in Afghanistan.

The Gear Junkie -- Maah Daah Hey Trail

The Maah Daah Hey Trail, a remote track in western North Dakota, runs 97 miles between two isolated units of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. As mountain-biking trails go, the Badlands-traversing route is about as remote as you can get in the Lower 48s, including vast desert stretches with no water and no inhabitants or roads for miles and miles around.

Weighty questions

Thoughts differ on backpacks If you read some of the print publications, websites and blogs devoted to the fine art of backpack camping, you'd likely get the impression that carrying one extra gram of weight in your pack is a sin punishable by hours of purgatory on the hiking trail. The message, repeated over and over, is that you simply can't enjoy yourself if your pack is even a pound too ...
