Choosing Lightweight Backpacking Gear

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

Trekkers who are backpacking need to travel light. Since backpacking is the combination of camping and hiking, carrying a light, but critical, load is the norm. Lightweight starts with having the right lightweight backpacking gear, particularly with the type of pack a trekker plans to carry.

Since traveling light means lightweight backpacking gear that helps the backpacker bring all the stuff they'll need. Lightweight backpacking gear packs include those built with an overall suspension system, to those with lots of padding.

When it choosing the ideal pack, comfort is the most important consideration. Always keep in mind that compromising his/her comfort for weight considerations is likely just bad economizing.

By selecting the right pack, one will greatly add to number of other lightweight items that can be carried, such as a portable stoves. If it's going to be a long backpacking adventure, bringing along a lighter but less powerful burning stove makes no sense, since a heavier stove would be of more service for the backpacking trip.

Backpacking, of course, involves hiking, so choosing a lighter pair of hiking shoes over a heavier, but more comfortable pair of hiking shoes would be a mistake since shoes are worn when hiking and not carried in your backpack.

Here are two popular packs.

GoLite Breeze packs are light, but able to carry up to 200 lbs. of weight, which equals 12.7 kilograms, which is quite reasonable for a backpacking gear weight total considering this includes the neccessary camping equipment with this weight. For a lightweight backpacking gear pack, GoLite Breeze should do the job.

Mountainsmith Specter is another ideal lightweight backpacking gear pack, that's perfect for winter backpacking trips. These packs are among the lightest and strongest available and are known for their quality.

Comfort is always the main consideration when choosing the right pack, and then functionality.
