Michigan State Forest Campgrounds: A Great Vacation
from: Maxx Adventure TravelChoosing a camping destination is not always easy considering the myriad of destinations you can choose all over the U.S.A. and Canada. You'll discover campgrounds near mountains and beaches as well as campgrounds great for hikers and those equipped for bikers. However, if you'll be travelling through the Midwest, there are no better camping facilities than the Michigan State forest campgrounds. No only are they are family-friendly, and couple-friendly they're also able to accomadate your family pet. Hospitality is their specialty and once you're visited, it's likely you and your family will want to come regularly.
Michigan State forest campgrounds are extensive woth more than 140 campgrounds throughout the Wolverine state. If you do some research on the Internet, and you'll find Michigan State forest campgrounds located along the state's northern Lower Peninsula and Upper Peninsula. In fact, these forest campgrounds cover almost four million acres of state forest land.
The Michigan State forest campgrounds are located on rivers and lakes, which makes them exceptional destinations for boating and fishing. Many are also great for for hiking, horseback riding, biking and bird watching. You may also be able to indulge your spirit in everything from cross-country skiing to mushroom hunting. What's Interesting is that some of the campsites are so isolated the only way to gain access is to hiking through the woods or rowing down a riverway.
A popular Michigan state forest campground is Brimley State Park, located along Lake Superior's Whitefish Bay. When visiting Brimley, you can choose from boating, fishing, and hiking, of course and enjoy the beautiful and scenic waterway. Thought hunting is banned at Brimley, you can hunt closeby in an area rich with deer, bears and grouse.
Another Michigan campground you'll want to explore is Lime Island State Forest where you can do some tent camping or cottage living, whichever you prefer. To get to the island, you'll need to charter a boat across St. Mary's River and since Lime Island is the home of black bears, it's important that you carefully secure your food. Though pets are allowed on the island, they're not allowed in campground buildings. Activities at Lime Island include fishing, hiking, and the ever popular sunbathing.
You should also consider Highland Recreation Area for your next camping destination in Michigan. This area has almost 6,000 acres of forestland, along with marshes and lakes in the southern part of the state -- an area especiually known for its hilly landscape. The site is great for hiking, skiing, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and mountain biking along with swimming, picnicking, and volleyball.
