Camping on a Budget With Discount Camping Equipment

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

Camping holidays are one of the cheaper ways to vacation with your family. Sometimes, however, even camping seems expensive. There's lots of discount camping equipment available that can be purchased at various stores -- some of which are dedicated to the sale of discount camping equipment.

Even though you may only be able to afford discount camping equipment, you still shouldn't skimp on the tent you buy. Most tents are not overly large and if you're going to be camping as a party of four, don’t buy a four berth tent, buy a six berth tent. You'll be glad to have the extra room, especially once you have your other gear in the tent.

You can get a decent tent for about two hundred dollars. This may not seem cheap, but look at it as an investment in the future. If you take care of your tent a good one can last for years, protectikng you from too much sun, wind and rain. Look for a tent with an extra screen over the entrance that will keep out mosquitoes and other bugs that might interrupt your sleeping.

Most stores that offer discount camping equipment will sell tarpaulins they are well worth the fifteen or twenty dollars they cost. You place them under your normal ground sheet and get extra protection from the cold, damp, and marauding bugs. Like everything else, if you look after your tent properly, such as not putting them away when damp, a good tarpaulin should last a long time.

If you buy your discount camping equipment online then you save yourself the hassle of having to go and pick it up. One of the main reasons discount camping equipment is cheaper online is because online retailers don't have the same overhead as offline stores -- and most of them pass this saving on to you. Another way to save money on camping equipment is to buy second hand gear or to rent it for your vacation.

One piece of advice applies whether you're looking for discount camping equipment or for some other equipment -- make a list before hand and know exactly what you need. Tent, sleeping bag and pots and pans are a bottom line and there are other items you may regard as essential, such as a decent torch or lantern.

Book Review: The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide by Andrew Skurka

My American hiking companion, Chris, gave me a wonderful present: two books, one of them Andrew Skurka's The Ultimate Hiker's Gear Guide . This small volume wonderfully encapsulate all the basic stuff you need to know about hiking gear, and I have come to like the book, and I have even followed Skurka's recommendation of what hiking shoe to use -- to the great joy of my feet! TUHGG is a very ...
