The weather in the mountains can change rapidly, thus you're going to need a durable tent that has enough room for everyone including their sleeping bags and other equipment.
Some camping stores may carry a map of the places the group is planning to camp. This could come in handy and you might also consider buying a handheld GPS or a compass which is very useful should anyone get lost in the wilderness.
