Watch Out for these Creatures When Cave Exploring
from: Maxx Adventure TravelThe dark, damp chambers of a cave provide a home for a many creatures that are both creepy and crawly. Some animals are accustomed to going inside caves in order to rest or hibernate, while others are long term dwellers and can't survive outside the cave. Regardless of how big a cave is, it's a universe to numberous animals that can be delicate or dangerous, minuscule or gargantuan.
Getting into a cave might be the ultimate adventure for you. But this activity often present dangers that lurk in the dark. A creature could suddenly catch you off guard, bringing you an itch or, worse, death -- so be prepared for these animals when cave exploring.
Bats reside inside caves to hide from the day light. Even a small disturbance can awaken them and in no time, hundreds, even thousands of panic-stricken bats are flying your way and you can easily get caught in the rush. With their razor sharp teeth and claws, bats can rip your cave apparel or your skin. If this happens, be watchful of your eyes or you could end up living in darkness forever.
Snakes lurk in cold and unlit places and a cave is the perfect habitat for these predators. Snakes are dangerous in two ways -- they could be venomous or constrictors. So you must be alert for snakes since they will attack without warning if they feel threatened. It's critically important that you wear protective apparel, especially if you're inexperienced at cave exploration.
Bears reside in caves when they hibernate during the winter months. It would be very unfortunate to disturb a hibernating bear or encounter one on the way out of hibernation. Bears are extremely strong and heavy animals. There have been actual reports of bears attacking humans, so always stay alert and be prepared. Know ahead of time if the cave you're planning to explore is in a region famous for bears.
Have you ever heard of the New York subway alligator? Well, that story is just an urban legend. But it shows that crocodiles and alligators love dark and damp environments, particularly when laying eggs. When you're inside a cave, especially those near lakes and swamps, always stay alert for these big reptiles because they have no problem having you for breakfast or lunch.
Creepy crawlers are abundant inside caves, which is why you must watch out for spiders, frogs, insects, and smaller reptiles such as salamanders and iguanas. While some crawlers are very poisonous, most of them are just uncomfortable if they manage to land on you.
