Tips for Mountain Climbing Beginners

However, not many children dream of becoming a mountain climber, except perhaps if they have a relative or friend who's a mountaineers. This is understandable since mountain climbing can be an extremely difficult sport.
Even experienced climbers can experience difficulties while climbing a mountain, which gives some indication of the hazards of mountaineering, and this applies double for beginners. Certainly, mountain climbing beginners must be trained and prepared before attempting any climb.
The first thing a beginner should do is to get proper mountain climbing training. Regardless of what many people think, mountain climbing isn't getting up one morning and deciding to climb the nearest mountain. Proper training is a definite must, and this includes learning techniques such as roping, rappelling, emergency signals and other essential tips.
One essential tip a mountain climbing novice or beginner ought to know is what is his own limitations. You're the only one who knows your body, and it's essential that you're honest in evaluating your strengths and weaknesses. Therefore, regardless of how fit or how much training you've got, mountain climbing beginners shouldn't make Mt. Everest among their first ten peaks to conquer -- wait until you've reached an expert level.
Another tip to remember is to never climb alone, especially if you're a beginner. Novice mountain climbers are more likely to experience hazards they've never seen before, and might panic should a difficult situation arise. Of course, panicking can cause clouded thinking which cause in turn make the situation even more dangerous.
Mountain climbing beginners may be surprised at the how much equipment is required, all essential for climbing, particularly when dealing with certain mountain ranges (e.g. the Alps). Since the equipment is a fair investment, novices may choose not to purchase them, or just purchase the cheapest ones they can find. This is definitely a mistake, since equipment is perhaps the second most important thing when becoming a mountain climber, next to proper training.
Finally, it's important to know the weather beforehand. The definition of stupidity is anyone who chooses to climb when weather forecasts are predicting a snowstorm in the general vicinity.
So you can understand why beginners need to gain experience first by climbing some of easier peaks. Once they get the hang of it, then it's okay to move onto a more difficult mountain, and so on, until the time comes to conquer Mt. Everest.
