The Importance of Comfortable Rock Climbing Shoes
from: Maxx Adventure TravelIf you're an experienced rock climber, you know how stressful it is on various parts of body. Chances are you're going to have sore arms and legs and since your shoulders bear the weight of backpacks and rope, they're going to be sore as well. Your feet are used to balance and keep your body moving will also hurt a lot after your day of rock climbing. The key strategy, at least for your feet, is to find the most comfortable pair of rock climbing shoes available to help ease the pain.
One technique to help with soresness is to always stretch before your climb, which will keep your body limber and allow it to relax when you get home in the evening. You should stretch after your climb as well which enables the body to stay relaxed so you can get a good night's sleep. Proper footwear is a good way to make this process of relaxation much easier. As with most sports equipment, you discover that rock climbing shoes come in a wide variety of colors and styles. While color isn't the most importatn aspect of a good rock climbing shoe, finding a color that you feel comfortable in is important. Your main focus should always be on actual rock climbing, not on feeling insecure because of your shoe's color.
There are rock climbing shoes available that are curved, and look as if they wouldn't be very comfortable, however, when rock climbing, your foot needs to fit into small cracks and ledges on the rock. Your shoe will thus be contorted, so a curved shoe actually helps to give better balance and fit into a tiny hole. You can choose betwee shoes with laces or shoes with Velcro, which is a totally personal preference.
If you're like me, I hate tying shoes, so Velcro versions are my choice every time. However, the most important aspect of your shoe choices is really comfort -- tight, but not too tight. If your shoes are too big, they could slip off when wedged in a small hole on the side of a rock. If your shoes are too tight, then blistering will occur, creating pain that might effect your ability to climb comfortably. So take your time and find the right rock climbing shoe that suits your needs. Try on as many as you need to until finding the right pair. Quality equals comfort so don't scrimp on this most important part of your rock climbing equipment.
