Rock Climbing Lessons
from: Maxx Adventure TravelOkay, you've decided your life could use some adventure and since you're into extreme adventure, you've decided rock climbing is perfect. So where to start? You may think you can just go out a buy yourself a bunch of equipment and then find the closest site and start climbing, however, it's recommended that you take a few lessons, especially if you've never climbed before.
If you check around, you'll discover that you can take lessons at gyms, sporting goods stores, and local community centers. Lessons are usually given to groups of first time rock climbers by seasoned veterans who will recall all the pitfalls they've encountered and give you a good overview of the dangers and exhilaration they've experienced. This is one of the best ways really determin if rock climbing is something you really want to try or just a romantic notion that sounds like it might be fun and exciting. You must understand from the beginning that rock climbing can be a very dangerous sport and should only be attempted by someone in good health, definitly not overweight afraid of heights.
Your first rock climbing lesson should cover all the equipment you'll be using during each climb. From harness to ice pick, every tool required should be carefully explained. Each piece of equipment has its purpose. Helmets not only protects your head from rain or snow, but also sunlight and falling rock. It's important that you learn how to properly secue the harness to yourself when rock climbing and also to finding the proper footwear. Your professional rock climbing teacher will explain why each piece of equipment is needed and discuss their importance in keeping you safe.
Keeping safe includes, not just climbing slowly and paying attention to others in the group, but also taking proper care of your equipment when it's being used. Storing your equipment in a safe place is necessary for continued use during your rock climbing lessons, you'll be taught proper storage and cleaning tasks and also when is the right time to discard used rope and purchase new rope.
Addition lessons will introduce you to climbing a rock wall, taught by someone with extensive experience in climbing a wall. Though it isn't an actual rock face, it's designed to be very similar. So, as you can see, taking some rock climbing lessons is definitely a good idea to really determine if this often dangerous, but extremely exhilarating test of your strength and character is right for you.
