Mountain Biking Safety Tips
from: Maxx Adventure TravelMountain biking safety is something you should never take lightly. There are may ways to improve your mountain bike safety starting with always wearing a helmet, the most important step to staying safe. The second most important step is to always maintain control of your mountain bike.
Riding so that you're in control will help to prevent crashes, and keep others on the trail safe as well. If you're riding out of control, you lose your ability to adjust to the terrain which can and usually does result in serious injury to yourself and others.
Follow these helpful guidelines and you'll remain safe when riding your mountain bike.
Gear
It should go without saying that you should always wear a helmet and other necessary safety gear designed for the conditions you've plan to ride in.
Never Ride Beyond Your Control
There's never any shame if you have to walk the rough areas of the trail you don't feel comfortable riding. Never allow anyone to tell you otherwise.
Keep Your Speed Under Control
Always maintain a speed level that allows you to quickly adjust to any obstacles or change in the trail.
Know Your Trail
Never ever try to push the limits on trails you're not familiar with. Ride trails you aren't familiar with at slow speeds until you're more familiar with their specific characteristics.
Slow Down Around Blind Corners
If you're unable to see beyond a corner, always slow down and take it cautiously since you never know who or what is around the corner.
Start Small Then Go Big
Work your way up to stunts or obstacles by practicing in less difficult or less dangerous situations before you move up to something more dangerous.
Play it Smart
If you start to question what you're doing, you probably shouldn't be doing it. Always think first about what you're doing and use your instincts as a guide.
