Your Cyprus Scuba Diving Adventure

from: Maxx Adventue Travel

Cyprus can be considered a natural choice for a great scuba diving adventure. The island has legendary beauty and is surrounded by warm waters. Cyprus enjoys year-round warmth which makes it a perfect vacation destination as well as for diving trips. The area has magnificent calm, crystal clear waters with depth visibility that can reach 30 meters.

A lot of the diving centers in Cyprus have PADI-certified instructors, which puts you in good and experienced hands. Greek is the official language, however, most of the population speaks English as well. The area is easily accessible by plane from over thirty airlines from most European countries.

Some popular diving spots in Cyprus are located in the southeast part of the island. These areas have 10-40 meter reefs and caves, perfect for both beginners and veteran scuba divers. Another popular area you'll want to check out is Latchi on the west coast. Be sure to go to a most popular site at the Akamas Peninsula.

The most famous dive site in Cyprus is the Zenobia wreck, a Swedish ferry boat that sank in 1979 and considered one of the top ten wreck dives in the world. It can be found at a depth of about 18 meters.

Other dive sites include the Roman Wall and the Lighthouse wreck. Locations that provide open water dives include the Amphorae Caves, the Vera K wreck and the Achilleas wreck. Also check out areas located in the beautiful Akamas Peninsula.

Cyprus is a great choice for scuba diving because of the diversity of its marine life -- fan worms, moray eels, groupers, damsel fish, soldier fish are just a few you may encount on a your dive. With Cyprus' long history, it's likely you'll discover ancient amphorae and stone anchors that date back to 500 or 400 B.C.

You should contact some of the diving centers in Cyprus if you'll be scuba diving. Here's a brief list to get you started:

Cydive (www.cydive.com) was established in Paphos in the 1980s and is the first center in Cyprus to receive a 5-Star PADI IDC accreditation. Their itinerary includes more than 50 dive sites in one year and sometimes, 24 sites in one month.

Scuba Diving and Diver Training Company (www.dive-in.com.cy) -- five diving centers in Larnaca, Paphos and Limasol. The center has been around for 20 years and they prefer smaller groups so they can give more personalized attention.

Cyprus Scuba Diving & Water Sports (www.cyprusscubadiving.com) -- located in Latchi and provides snorkeling, surfing, waterskiing and jetskiing in addition to scuba diving.

Dive Point Diving Centre (www.divepointcyprus.co.uk) -- a family-run diving center at Kato Paphos.
