Choosing the Your Skiing Gear

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

When preparing for your next skiing adventure, one of the major purchases you're going to have to make is special gear to make your days on the slopes fun, exciting as well as safe.

There are 5 considerations when determining the best gear for your skiing adventure.

1. First is your ski clothing, which includes a jacket, shirt, underwear, pants and socks, all of which should be chosen for warmth first, and then for looks. There are those who recommend wearing bright clothing in case of an accident or you ever get stranded to make it easier for rescuers to find you.

2. Of all the gear you'll be picking up, make sure you spend lots of time researching the best skis for your specific needs. There was a time when skis were made of wood, but advances in technology and materials have made skis much lighter which makes this activity much more fun.

You'll be able to choose skis made from aluminum, carbon and titanium, so do your homework and make sure you understand that each material will have its pros and cons and will be priced accordingly.

3. You're going to need a pair of boots that will lock with your skis. Accidents can happen if the wrong kind of footwear were to be used, so it's now required that only special boots designed for skis must be used.

4. Once of the major challenges in skiing is maintaining your balance, which is why you'll need some ski poles to help you stay upright while twisting and turning down the slope.

5. Finally, any skier who has a brain should be wearing a helmet to prevent any chance of a concussion or other head injuries that could result if you were to collide with a tree or hit some rocks with your head.

The type of skiing gear you purchase will largely depend on your skill level. If you're a beginner or intermediate level skier, you'll need gear that will be maneuverable. Experts skiers used different types of gears that's usually lighter since they'll be more likely to be entering competitions.

If you haven't purchased your gear, you can always rent some equipment at your resort until you have a good idea that you'll be spending lots of time skiing. It also makes it convenient for learning the type of gear you're most comfortable with before buying your own set. Rental rates will vary depending on the resort and how many days you'll be need the equipment.

Yankees’ World Series three-peat memorabilia discarded at thrift shop in Morton Grove, Illinois

One of our missions at Big League Stew is to inform the public when baseball memorabilia once considered to be precious and valuable — at least sentimentally so — has been relegated to the thrift shops of this great nation. Especially when that memorabilia originated far away from where it ended up. It's the classic Island of Misfit Toys scenario. Call me Yukon Cornelius. Case in point: On a ...
