Geilo is located 3 1/2 hours from Norway's capital city, with good road and rail links to the village. Geilo has also gained a reputation among Snowboarders, winning its bid to host the Norwegian Snowboarding Championship over Lillehammer, Voss and Hemsedal. Providing four sides of the mountain, each dedicated to snowboarding and skiing, Geilo is Norway's first skiing location to offer 5 runs dedicated to snowboarding. With a total of 110 runs, Geilo has 14% expert that allows experienced skiers to indulge themselves on the slopes, while also providing facilities for intermediates and beginners which make up a larger number of yearly visitors.

Geilo goes out of its way to cater to families, with creches, family diners, and especially their Christmas bonanza which includes a visit from Santa and his reindeers on Christmas day.
