Austria Skiing Adventures

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

For ski enthusiast looking for adventures in Europe, a wonderful ski vacation can be had in Austria where the majestic Alps provide some of the best ski resorts in Europe and, indeed, anywhere in the world.

Austria is blessed with two areas best known for skiing, St. Anton located in the Arlberg region and Kitzbuhel.

At St. Anton, you can participate in a variety of activities, and if you're just starting to learn how to ski, you've in luck because this is one of the best known schools for teaching newbies. The Arlberg School boasts over 300 instructors who can communicate in many different languages which allows any beginner to immediately feel comfortable while learning all the techniques that will help them become a master skier.

There are those who believe that learning how to ski is extremely difficult, and this may be true for anyone who isn't physically fit enough to handle the rigors of the sport. However, if you've achieved a reasonal level of fitness and have a strong desire to learn, your professional instructors are there to help you understand all the basic techniques to get you started.

Once a student has a grasp of the basics, it's simply a matter of practice and developing additional skills as familiarity with how to use the equipment to maintain balance as well as handle all the situations that arise during a ski run down the slope.

The Kitzbuhel area has been around for over 700 years and for skiers it's a dream come true, providing over 50 lifts to get you to the top of the slopes. When you're not skiing, you'll love to go to town for a special shopping trip.

Every nation has it's favorite sport and past times and for native Austrians it's skiing in the same way those in the U.S. and Canada love to play baseball and hockey. As the national past time, it isn't surprising that Austrian athletes are always at or near the top in all skiing events at the World Championships and Winter Olympics.

In addition to skiing, Austria puts on a very special event you must not miss, the annual reindeer sled race. Now, this is no Tour de France, but the event always draws a competitive field as well as huge crowds who cheer on their favorite participants in the race.
