Survival Training

from: Maxx Adventure Travel

Those who are true adventurers who love the great outdoors, go hiking up the tallest mountains, swim beneath the vast oceans, and visit the huge icy expanses of the globe. Some of these adventurers are soldiers who live in jungles out of necessity, and are sent on reconnaissance missions into the wilderness that take weeks and months. Have you ever wondered how these people can survive all the dangers at hand?

Highly trained soldiers are schooled on how to survive when out in the field, regardless of the climate or environment. Adventurers know basic survival skills such as lighting a fire, building shelters, etc. The one thing common to both advernturers and soldiers -- they undergo rigorous survival training before embarking on their journey.

Benefits of Survival Training

The main benefit of survival training is that it prepares you for every possibe situation that might arise because you never know what could happen while in a dangerous environment. You may need a fire one night to use for light and warmth, and if you don’t have matches, you know how to make one due to your survival training.

Another benefit is it teaches you how to make the most of the environment you're in, regardless of how difficutl it might be. For example, let's say you're in the jungle. Survival training teaches you the proper way to hunt for food and water, how to cook the food, and the right way to build a shelter made of trees -- all of which would be difficult to do if not properly trained.

In addition, survival training teaches you how to adapt to the terrain. If you're trapped on an island, you'll know what to do with the resources available on the island. It's different when you're trapped near the top of a mountain, since you have to know how to properly climb down from it.

How to Get Trained

There are many survival training schools available that are free of charge to anyone, not to mention certain military camps where this training is a requirement. If you're simply an adventurer, you would have to enroll in this form of school or hire an expert to teach you. If you're in the military or aspiring to be, it's not much of a problem since this is required, especially if you’re to be sent into the field.

For those who love adventure travel, survival training is a must. Adventure can sometimes become treacherous, with dangerous situations cropping up with sudden fury and those who have good survival training will develop the best instincts for handling whatever situation arises.
